R.I.P ROACH
xxxtentacion

“RIP Roach” was released on May 12, 2016 by Ski Mask the Slump God, featuring his long-time companion, XXXTENTACION. The track was rereleased within X’s debut commercial mixtape, Revenge, under his name, featuring Ski. The track fits in a series of very popular tracks with heavy 808s and a set of hats, including Ski’s “Take A Step Back” and X’s “Yung Bratz”. There is a long story behind the track’s title. “Roach” was a nickname of one of X’s friends who was murdered.

YuNg BrAtZ
xxxtentacion

“YuNg BrAtZ” was originally the first single off of XXXTENTACION’s mixtape, Bad Vibes Forever, as the project was scheduled to release on October 31st, 2016 but was instead delayed. Eventually, X placed the track on his debut commercial mixtape, Revenge. The track’s cover art is taken from X’s fight before a concert that took place on June 27, 2016. X got in a fight with another artist that goes by the handle on Twitter @Not_Linden. X and Linden were going to work together on a song but X didn’t prioritize on writing his verse, so the song took longer to work on. Therefore, Linden posted pictures of their private messages on Twitter and complained about X not going through with what he said. He repeatedly asked for his money back but X refused. X then scheduled a fight and after he won, Linden deleted comments on his tweets and Instagram posts that regard him losing the fight.

Slipknot
xxxtentacion

“Slipknot” was released April 18th, 2017 on X’s Soundcloud. The song was also included on Revenge, X’s first commercial mixtape which consisted of old songs from his Soundcloud. X raps about his mother and how his behavior has been getting him into jail a lot of the time. In the No Jumper Interview, X explains that his mother wasn’t able to take care of him, so she sent him to live with his aunt. He was a “bad kid” growing up and made his mom’s life tough. He’s always had anger issues but now that he’s come to fame, he wants to cherish his mother for all she’s done for him. This song was previewed on his Instagram live, where he gave his viewers a snippet of the song. During the live-stream, he had said his mother cried when he had first shown her the song.

This song was actually written when he got his first warrant for his arrest, it was kind of an apology. In this song X raps in an aggressive way over a metal-influenced instrumental.

Valentine
xxxtentacion

This song was originally released on March 28, 2016 on XXXTENTACION’s SoundCloud as “THROAT: the violent valentine lullaby”, for X’s EP, Willy Wonka Was A Child Murderer. It was later re-released on X’s first official iTunes release, Revenge, on May 16th, 2017, simply as “Valentine.” However, the song was later removed from Revenge due to sample clearance issues.

Looking for a Star
xxxtentacion

“looking for a star (CANT GET YOU OUT OF MY HEAD)” by XXXTENTACION and Diplo marks X’s first attempt at a radio Pop single. Famous producer, Diplo, has collaborated with famous artists like Justin Bieber in creating radio hits. This song features themes common in X’s music, like the inability to cope when he loses a relationship with someone close to him. This song is most likely directed towards Geneva, Jahseh’s ex-girlfriend, who accused X of beating her. The song name is a direct reference to Geneva, whose twitter handle is @yourl0nelystar. X’s heavily autotuned voice plays over a repetitive, yet intriguing beat. The beat clearly is more mainstream than on the rest of X’s music, as a lot of his tracks consist of heavy bass and loud vocals.

Geneva, Jahseh’s ex-girlfriend, is the one who told that this song wasn’t about anybody in particular. Jahseh just decided to sing a horror love song as soon as he heard the beat, but only Jahseh knows what picture he is painting here. The cover art is a picture of X he probably took himself. Two of his tattoos can be seen: “Cleopatra”, the name of his mother on his chest, and “Wing Ridden Angel” on his right arm, referring to the girlfriend he had before Geneva.

Look At Me!
xxxtentacion

“Look At Me” was first released on December 30, 2015, via Soundcloud. It samples “Changes” by Mala. The track received a second surge in popularity in late January 2017, when Drake previewed a song eventually released as “KMT,” which had a similar sounding flow. After hearing the preview for “KMT,” X tweeted his frustration at the similarities. Drake denied stealing the flow, though he admitted there were similarities, prompting X to respond from jail, saying he would rather a big name artist like Drake help with his legal situation, rather than steal his flow and not give any credit. Subsequently, in May 2017, “Look At Me!” was edited for better sound quality and placed on his Revenge mixtape, giving it a wider release on streaming services. The music video for “Look At Me!” released on September 12, 2017.

TheresAnElephantInTheRoom (Better Quality)
xxxtentacion

One of XXXTENTACION’s much earlier and rarer songs, “ElephantInTheRoom” is the second track off his project, KIDS and is currently deleted off his Soundcloud account. Originally released in 2015, this song was reposted by various Soundcloud users and even X himself sometime between March and April 2017 before being deleted again. Sampling both Crywank’s “Privately Owned Spiral Galaxy” and drew the architect’s “growing tired now,” X both sings, raps, and vocalizes over a somber and acoustic guitar loop. Ultimately, this track showcases some of X’s more depressive and alternative rock-based styles. He describes how he is unable to love as a result of his past love’s pattern of deception. Consequently, X has become an elephant in the room, a person who will always remain a problem as everyone continues to ignore his existence.

We see the depressed side of X more in this song. He is saying that he feels so dead inside that his flesh is cold, like a dead body. X also samples “Heldaghost” by SurrenderDorothy.

NEVER
xxxtentacion

In this song, there are several reoccurring themes; a girl, death, and X’s internal dispute with death vs. life. It is believed that the song is related to a relationship that X was in which ended poorly and left X in a state of depression. A sad, dark tone is very present in not only the beat, but in his voice. X can even be heard sighing and sniffling in different parts of the song. While the song was originally the intro to The Fall, X also decided to reuse it two years later as the outro to WILLY WONKA WAS A CHILD MURDERER. After X’s unexpected murder, he was accused of stealing this instrumental from Russian composer Aesthesys on “Dreams Are Only Real As Long As They Last.” After Aesthesys' original was flagged on YouTube for copyright infringement, said in a Reddit post that he prepared a lawsuit against the rapper before his death, but it doesn’t look like he was going to take action on it.

Leave
xxxtentacion

“leave” is one of four tracks that were included on X’s scrapped project, Heartbreak Hotel. The song had three plays and was only up for six minutes on SoundCloud before X deleted it because “it needed to be improved.” He, however, never re-uploaded the song. After it was found out that Kilo Jr. of X’s old collective Members Only had the song, a group buy was set up for this with the goal of reaching $800 for the song to be re-released on June 18, 2019, exactly one year after X passed away. It was successful and leaked on the morning of the chosen day.

Teeth (Interlude)
xxxtentacion

XXXTENTACION is singing this song about his breakup with his girlfriend, and what he is feeling about relationships. This song is also a sequel to “A Message To Tina Belcher.” X released and deleted “Teeth” in a series of tweets in mid-April 2015 that can be seen here:

X once considered putting the song on Members Only Vol. 1 with Ski Mask The Slump God, but decided against it.
The song samples “No, the Moon” by Teen Suicide for the piano loop, and instrumental for the second half of the song is just the first half of the song slowed down by 36%.
