Inspired by Beeple's incredible artwork: https://www.instagram.com/p/BvIoqSLATS_/ I felt this needed something less electronic and without drums. I felt something more tense and cinematic would fit the picture just right. I was thinking of pianos and unsettling strings when I first saw it. I used mostly mostly realistic instruments with a couple of synths thrown in there for bass and effects. I used the E phrygian mode at 82 bpm. I tried to emphasize the phrygian mode by playing mostly the E,F,B,C notes. These really help give it the dark quality it has. ----- 2019 Challenge: Melody and Contrast in Arrangement ----- Instruments & Software: Ableton Live 10 Spitfire Plucked Piano (Kontakt) Spitfire Scary Strings (Kontakt) Spitfire EVO Grid 3 (Kontakt) Serum ----- Plugins: Ableton Plugins FabFilter Melda Productions Valhalla Room LFO Tool ----- The Process: I started out playing the Plucked Piano and was looking for a melody and bass line. I then layered the Scary Strings underneath to help make it more unpleasant sounding. Next, I used Serum for some synth bass. I wanted this to catch the listeners ear and then blend it in so it sounded natural with the strings and piano. I then programmed another instance of Serum for the pulsing, helicopter bass pulse sound that comes in about halfway through. I lastly added a synth pluck type sound to replace the piano during the main body of the song.
