  • i wanna be EVERYTHING

LUXXURY - "i wanna be EVERYTHING" NOL108 / November 16, 2018 - original version NOL109 / December 14, 2018 - LUXXURY remix LUXXURY's latest single 'i wanna be EVERYTHING' is L.A. based disco aficionado Blake Robin's most unabashed love letter yet to 70s dancefloor culture. With a soaring falsetto chorus that audaciously recalls the sexual hysteria of peak time Studio 54 divas like Loleatta Holloway, Chaka Khan and all four Gibb brothers rolled into one, it’s definitely a cocktail for adults only. But it's not just about sweat and sex as much as its a desperate plea to be heard, understood and loved in an era when distractions are everywhere. "I wanna be EVERYTHING" is the battle cry of the unappreciated, from the spouse suffering through years of marital silence to the Tinder date whose match spends the night mindlessly scrolling their social feeds. “Hey, *I* wanna be what you need!" The song has long been the big closing number at LUXXURY's shows, both as a four piece live band opening for Giorgio Moroder, Escort and on NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly; as well as at his DJ/live hybrid performances at SF's Outside Lands, Festival No.6 in Wales and dozens more from London to Mexico City. Longtime collaborator Billy Caruso cowrote the song and contributes his trademark melodic Rhodes playing, while Fitz and the Tantrums' bassist Joe Karnes once again takes a Robin bassline and re-interprets it with added muscle, his deft touch adding delicately nuanced semiquavers to the song's thumping heartbeat. 'The song was initially written three years ago but it's taken ages to get it right' says Robin. 'Once I replaced my bass take with Joe's, the song sprang to life. That was the special sauce it needed to properly pop out of the speakers.' LUXXURY's previous single 'Be Good 2 Me' was featured in the new XBOX game Forza Horizon 4; a series of collaborative singles and a full length album are in the works for 2019. ABOUT LUXXURY: LUXXURY makes dance music for adults. Raw, funky bass-lines plucked with grown-man finesse. A mastery of space disco native only to those who lived through the late '70s/early '80s. Dust in the glitter that vibrates in the space between string stabs, bongo slaps, and guitar jabs-while the steady pulse and astral effects feel beamed in from a more cybernetic future Los Angeles. That's where the nu-disco wizard born Blake Robin dwells when he isn't on the road opening for Giorgio Moroder or the Juan MacLean, leading his 4 piece band on late-night TV or remixing live at DJ sets in Mexico City, New York and London. In fact, you might've first felt his deft touch via the controversial Luxxury Edits-where he uses multi-tracks (stems) of classic hits to create dubby slow-disco versions-but his original music is no less arresting, with a sound that reflects not only a newfound earnestness of expression but a lifelong love for the craft of disco.

  • Spa In Disco - Tropical Disco #009 - JAMES ROD
    Spa In Disco Club
    James Rod
  • Dr Packer & Loshmi - In Case Of Emergency
    Disco Fruit Records

Disco Fruit's latest two-track missive sees label regular Loshmi join forces with Glitterbox regular and disco remixer to the stars Dr Packer. First up is "A Case of Emergency", which sounds like a tidied up, extra-fresh revision of a sparkling '80s soul/electrofunk ham full of addictive synth bass, sing-along chorus vocals, chiming melodies and twinkling pianos. Equally as impressive is accompanying cut-job "House In Downtown", another '80s soul style revision blessed with funk-fuelled boogie bass guitar, spacey synthesizer flourishes, life-affirming brass blasts and a vaguely familiar lead vocal that will have dancers singing along in unison. Proper party music for those who like their dancefloor grooves to come accompanied by shoulder pads, Jheri curls and a side order of cherry wine.

  • Cavego - Hafjell
    Eskimo Recordings

For nearly two decades now Norway has been synonymous with disco music, artists such as Lindstrøm, Prins Thomas and Todd Terje redefining the genre.  Now, following in their footsteps, a new generation are breaking through and Even Hymer Gillebo, aka Cavego, has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting with acclaimed singles on labels such as Youth Control and Get Dancy and remixes for nu-disco stars like Satin Jackets and Blende. Now signed to renowned Belgian label Eskimo Recordings, home to two seminal albums by Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas, Cavego is set to solidify his reputation with his debut EP, the sparkling and playful ‘Gudbrandsdalen’. Named after the famous Gudbrandsdalen Valley, an iconic location in Norwegian literature and culture and where Cavego’s family have long kept a cabin, the EP’s genesis began last spring when he returned to the place he spent his formative years to collect the sounds of running creeks, birdsong, the wind in the grass and create music based on his childhood experiences. With his collection of vintage synthesizers, carefully, relocated out to the remote cabin, these field recordings would go on to become the basis for the EP. ‘Hafjell’ is named after one of Norway’s most renowned ski resorts, and where the slalom and giant slalom events during the Olympics in 1994 were held. Inspired by the games the track’s atmospheric intro recalls a slalom skier inspecting the piste before launching off and navigating the slalom gates at exhilarating speed. • Glad I'm In Love Again (Young Pulse Rework) (Short Version)
    Young Pulse

We are quite familiar with the classic disco anthem "Can't Fake The Feeling" by Geraldine Hunt, from her LP "No Way", released on New York label Prisme in 1980. From the same album, "Glad I'm In Love Again" has been a long time favorite, with its uplifting chorus, strings progression and pure love vibe. Here is his rework to which I added my YP touch, additional drums and percs, a friendly edit, and a tight mastering. Crafted for the disco, this rework is a must have. Enjoy, play loud, and spread love ! Artwork by Eugene Delation.

  • Lenny Fontana & Shirley Lites - Fire (Dr Packer Remix)
    Midnight Riot Records

Glitterbox sensation Dr Packer has been commissioned to rework 'Fire' and it's already causing serious damage. Extending the arrangement with his trademark drums, filtered breakdowns and full of intense peak time madness, he's turned this into a modern day anthem for Midnight Riot. West End Records vocalist Shirley Lites of 'Heat You Up, Melt You Down' notoriety has joined forces with Lenny Fontana a true New Yorker who learned his craft from radio personality Frankie Crocker of WBLS. Inspired by Larry Levan, Fontana went on to play at Studio 54 in the late 80’s and now DJ's globally at clubs worldwide. 'Fire' has been whipping dance floor's into a total disco frenzy all summer and is now ready to ignite once more!
